The Tugela Falls Hike is known by many names… Sentinel Peak Hike and Amphitheatre Hike. It is one of the best hikes to do in Drakensberg as it offers such incredible views for such minimal effort. The hike covers 14km over a 2 day period, 7 & 7, with 450 meters of elevation gain.
This makes it the easiest route to access the top of the Drakensberg Escarpment. For example, majority of hikes will take you two full days of hiking with 2000 meters of elavtion gain to reach the top.
The hike can be done in a day however you are missing out on a few key elements which include:
- sunrise (best part in our opinion)
- sunset (also a goodie)
- stargazing ( not talking about the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp series ).
How much more convincing do you need? Well how about the fact that this is a fully catered hike? Yes that’s right. We handle everything except transport so besides that everything else is on us including meals and equipment. The cost is R3,100 per person and includes:
- Return shuttle from Witsiesheok mountain lodge to sentinel car park

Mnweni is regarded as one of the most scenic, if not most scenic, region in the Drakensberg Mountains. Due to its remoteness it does not receive as much traffic as hikes like Tugela Falls and Cathedral Peak. What we’re saying is that we probably won’t cross paths with another hiking group and will have the whole mountain range to ourselves.
Photo captured by Patrick Richardson while hiking up Mnweni Pass on day 2 of this incredible 3 day hike. The basalt pinnacles you see in the background are the Mnweni Pinnacles, one of Drakensbergs most unique structures.
The Mnweni Circuit Hike covers 46km over a 3 day period with nearly 2000 meters of elevation gain and loss. We rate this hike as moderate in Drakensberg standards. We spend one night sleeping in tents in the valley while the next night is spent in a cave on top of the escarpment, either Ledgers Cave or Mponjwane Cave. Both offer hikers a spectacular view.
The cost for this hike is R3,850 per person and includes:

- dinners, breakfasts and hot drinks on the mountain which our team will prepare
- equipment including 4 season tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, backpacks and eating utensils

Drakensberg Northern Traverse in 2 Days
70km. 2 days. Just enough time to question all your life choices.
Some say the Northern Traverse is best done over 5–6 days. Others say “nah, let’s do it in two and see who survives.”
This is the express version of the Drakensberg Northern Traverse. We’re talking 40km on Day 1, 30km on Day 2, and zero chance of your legs speaking to you afterward. Designed for the fittest, fastest, and most wonderfully unhinged mountain humans, this two-day mission will push you, break you, and weirdly delight you.
What’s Included – R7,500pp
- 1 night at Witsieshoek Lodge before the hike (breakfast included, dinner at own cost)
- Transfer from Cathedral Peak Hotel to Witsieshoek on Day 1, so your car is waiting at the finish
- Lightweight hiking gear: tent, sleeping bag, inflatable mat, backpack, and utensils
- 2x freeze-dried lunches, 1 mountain breakfast, 1 mountain dinner, and coffee (because obviously)
- Permits, park fees, and taxes handled
- Access to satellite comms and live tracking (in case you want to terrify your family in real time)
- An epic high five at the end. And maybe a guilt-free beer.

An incredible 4 day, 3 night hike to the highest peak in South Africa. This hike is rated as one of the harder hikes that we offer due to the 2000 meters of elevation gain we will do over the first two days. That amounts to 1000m each day.
The hike covers 64km over the 4 day period and is generally done as a circular route. Notice the wording “generally”? Safety is very important to us thus we don’t have a set route as heavy rains can cause the route to change. This rarely happens so we often make use of the circular route which takes us up Corner Pass and down Leslie’s Pass.
A cute couples photo taken on our way up Corners Pass. The Trojan Wall can be seen in the background.
Our meeting point for this hike is at Injasuthi Camp at 10am. We recommend taking a drive down the day before and staying about halfway, avoiding the early wake up call at 4am to drive down from JHB. You can catch us at Injasuthi the night before where we will buy you a beer. The cost for this hike is R4,600 per person and includes the following:
- qualified mountain guide and wilderness first responder
- dinners, breakfasts and hot drinks on the mountain which our team will prepare
- equipment including 4 season tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, backpacks and eating utensils.
- hiking permits and park fees
- endless supply of dad jokes to keep you highly motivated throughout your trek with us.

Same camp. Big mountains. Next-level magic.
Looking for high-altitude adventure without playing daily pack mule? Welcome to Tugela Falls a 3-day Drakensberg hike where we set up base camp once and spend two nights in the same spot. That’s right: no daily gear schlepping, no tent re-pitching, no stress. Just pure mountain bliss.
On Day 2, we leave the tents behind and head out to explore the top of the Drakensberg escarpment. Options include a summit of Mont-aux-Sources, a scramble toward Devils Tooth, and a quick cool-down at the dramatic Bilanjil Falls. It’s like an alpine buffet, but with more wind.
What’s the Damage?
R4,400 per person
And here’s what’s included:
- A qualified mountain guide and wilderness responder who actually knows their left from right (most days)
- Delicious dinners and breakfasts (plus hot drinks: coffee, tea, and hot chocolate) cooked and served on the mountain like the royalty you are
- Full use of our high-quality kit:
- 4-season tents
- Sleeping bags
- Inflatable sleeping mats
- Backpacks and utensils
- Permits and park fees because hiking legally is sexy
- Return 4×4 shuttle from Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge to Sentinel car park
- Satellite comms for emergency use, or just to check if your Instagram followers miss you
- Discounts on gear and clothing at select partner stores (yes, including Drifters)
Optional Extras:
Need help carrying your gear? Porters are available to hire because “luxury hiking” is a real thing and your back deserves it.

Cathedral Peak is the highest, non-technical, free-standing mountain in South Africa and is a popular choice among hikes. We do this hike a bit differently to most companies. We spend 3 days tackling this peak unlike the usual two days. This makes the hike a lot easier and more enjoyable. We spend two nights sleeping in a cave while the middle day is spent ascending Cathedral Peak without a backpack! Pure bliss.
This hike covers 21km over the 3 day period, 4km on day 1, 13km on day 2, and 4km on day 3. Because of the short distance we do on day 1, our meeting time is only at 12pm,. This gives us plenty of time to introduce ourselves, do a pack check as well as a hike briefing and still arrive at Sherman’s Cave long before sunset. Because the hike is so short on the way down, generally not taking more than an hour, we like to stop at the Cathedral Peak Hotel for breakfast before driving back to whichever hobbit hole we came from.
The cost for this hike is R3,850 per person and includes:
- Qualified mountain guide and wilderness first responder
- dinners, breakfasts and hot drinks on the mountain
- equipment including sleeping bags, sleeping mats, backpacks, 3 ping pong balls and eating utensils
- hiking permits
- summit certificate.

50km. 2,500 vertical meters. Unlimited mountain magic.
This isn’t just a hike, it’s a full-blown mountain saga.
Fangs Pass is one of the most scenic routes in the entire Drakensberg. Over 4 days, you’ll climb a total of 2,500 vertical metres (yes, your quads will cry), cover just under 50km of dramatic terrain, and earn bragging rights that last longer than your ability to walk properly afterward.
We’ll spend one night in the lower Mnweni Valley, then two nights up on the escarpment, sleeping under the stars and possibly questioning your life decisions in the best possible way.
This is one of our tougher hikes, but also one of the most rewarding. If you’re looking for a Drakensberg adventure that’s raw, real, and ridiculously beautiful, this is it.
The Damage: R5,000 per person
Before you scroll away thinking “ouch,” just remember what’s included:
- A qualified mountain guide who knows the way and cracks jokes
- Top-tier hiking equipment:
- 4-season tent
- Sleeping bag
- Inflatable sleeping mat
- Backpack
- Eating utensils
- Hot meals on the mountain: Dinners, breakfasts, and proper real coffee (none of that instant sadness)
- Hiking permits and local taxes – we like to keep things legal
- Shuttle from Mnweni Cultural Centre to the trailhead
- Access to satellite comms in case of emergencies (or if you just need to text your therapist)
- Discounts on gear at select partner stores because you deserve nice things

Event Details
The Bell Traverse, situated in the Central Drakensberg, is easily one of the top 5 hikes and is quite unique to other hiking trails in the Drakensberg. This is because Cathedral Peak is home to many of Drakensbergs free-standing basalt towers which include Cathedral Peak,
The Bell, The Inner and Outer Horns, The Mitre and The Chessmen. All of these peak are part of the Bell Traverse. We spend day 1 hiking up to the escarpment top via Organ Pipes Pass. Our home for this night is in what I believe to be the most scenic cave in the Drakensberg, Roland’s Cave. Day 2 sees us hiking along the escarpment edge to Twins Cave where we will spend the next night.
The third day takes us along the Bell Traverse, amongst some giant basalt pinnacles. We have the option to summit cathedral peak today. Our home for the night will be at the base of the peak. The final day sees us descending to the hotel. We should be down by 12pm.
We rate this hike as moderate in difficulty however there are some exposed sections along the route so a head for heights is a must. Our meeting point for this hike is located at Cathedral Peak Hotel at 9:30am. We aim to start hiking by 10:30am. The hike covers just under 50km over the 4 day period with around 2000m of elevation gain in total. The cost for the hike is R4,600 per person and includes:

The Mnweni Circuit Hike covers 46km over a 3 day period with nearly 2000 meters of elevation gain and loss. We rate this hike as moderate in Drakensberg standards. We spend one night sleeping in tents in the valley while the next night is spent in a cave on top of the escarpment, either Ledgers Cave or Mponjwane Cave. Both offer hikers a spectacular view.
The cost for this hike is R3,850 per person and includes:
- qualified mountain guide and wilderness first responder
- dinners, breakfasts and hot drinks on the mountain which our team will prepare
- equipment including 4 season tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, backpacks and eating utensils
- hiking permits and park fees
- access to satellite communications for emergency
- unlimited supply of A-grade dad jokes.

Mafadi. Injisuthi Dome. Champagne Castle. 5 days. 1 epic hiking flex.
This hike doesn’t just tick boxes it smashes them.
On this 5-day high-altitude adventure, we’ll summit the three tallest peaks in South Africa:
• Mafadi (3,450m)
• Injisuthi Dome (3,407m)
• Champagne Castle (3,377m)
It all kicks off and ends at Injisuthi Camp in the Central Drakensberg, a mountain haven so beautiful you’ll consider selling your house and moving into a tent full-time. We highly recommend arriving the night before, we start early, and nothing ruins a summit more than sleep deprivation and highway rage.
Over the 60km you’ll cover across 5 glorious (and sometimes grueling) days, you’ll ascend nearly 3,000 vertical metres. Not exactly “easy peasy,” unless your quads are made of titanium and your soul runs on masochism.
This hike will challenge your fitness, mental strength, and ability to laugh at dad jokes on repeat. And yes, the views are outrageous, the campsites remote, and the stoke levels high.
Cost: R6,500 per person
Here’s what’s included in this high-altitude deal of the decade:
- A qualified mountain guide who comes fully loaded with navigational skills and questionable humour
- Top-quality gear:
- 4-season tent
- Sleeping bag
- Inflatable sleeping mat
- Backpack
- Eating utensils
- All mountain meals: Dinners, lunches, breakfasts, and hot drinks (coffee, tea, and something chocolaty for morale)
- Satellite communications for emergency use (and occasional dramatic weather checks)
- All permits and park fees because we believe in mountain karma (and legal hiking)
- Discounts on gear and clothing at select outdoor stores, treat yourself, your knees earned it
Think you’re ready?
This hike isn’t just about bagging peaks it’s about finding out what you’re really made of (besides trail mix and sweat). It’s raw, wild, and deeply satisfying.
So go ahead. Be that person who’s climbed the three highest peaks in South Africa in one shot.

Ever wanted to cross the entire Drakensberg range in one go? Yeah, we thought so.
Join us for 10 days of pure mountain madness as we tackle the northern, central, and southern Berg on what’s quite possibly South Africa’s toughest and most remote hike the Drakensberg Grand Traverse.
We’ll chew through about 25km a day with 1,000m of climbing all off trail. That’s right: no neat little paths, no cute park benches, just you, the mountains, and a lot of uphill.
Don’t worry we’ve got the boring stuff sorted. Transport? Done. Catering? Sorted. Porters? Absolutely. Resupplies? Yup, you even get one glorious mid-hike moment where you can swap out sweaty socks for fresh ones. Porters carry the food and tents, so all you have to worry about is your personal gear (sleeping bag, clothing, snacks, and not crying on the uphill).
We’ve planned this beast for October, when the Berg is showing off with green slopes, flowing rivers, and weather that’s just warm enough to trick you into thinking it’s easy (it’s not).
Need gear? We’ve got some of the best lightweight kit in the country. Want excuses? Sorry, we don’t stock those.
Spots are limited, so if you fancy spending 10 days smelling like a wild goat and loving every second of it, drop us a mail: info@souladventures.co.za.

The hike can be done in a day however you are missing out on a few key elements which include:
- sunrise (best part in our opinion)
- sunset (also a goodie)
- stargazing ( not talking about the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp series ).
How much more convincing do you need? Well how about the fact that this is a fully catered hike? Yes that’s right. We handle everything except transport so besides that everything else is on us including meals and equipment. The cost is R3,100 per person and includes:
- Return shuttle from Witsiesheok mountain lodge to sentinel car park
- qualified mountain guide and wilderness first responder
- dinner, breakfast and hot drinks on the mountain
- equipment including 4 season tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, backpacks and eating utensils
- hiking permits and park fees.

- qualified mountain guide and wilderness first responder
- dinners, breakfasts and hot drinks on the mountain which our team will prepare
- equipment including 4 season tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, backpacks and eating utensils
- hiking permits and park fees
- access to satellite communications for emergency
- unlimited supply of A-grade dad jokes.
