Best Time to Climb Mot Blanc

The best season to climb Mont Blanc on foot is during the summer months of June – September. Ski ascents are usually made from late March to May. The most beautiful weather is usually during the ‘high summer season’ although the mountain and huts can get very busy in late July and August. Autumn often provides cool but fine weather and, an ascent at this time of year can provide a fine ‘expedition feel’. A tougher ascent but often with good conditions and a quiet mountain. Not many people enjoy climbing Mont Blanc in winter due to the Arctic like cold, serious weather and deep snow giving very tough trail breaking and an increased avalanche risk.

Climbing Mont Blanc will take you to a elevation of 4,810m. It is the highest mountain within the Alps and lies between France and Italy.

Mont Blanc or Monte Bianco (Italian version of Mont Blanc) both of these names mean  “White Mountain”. Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and EU Union. When climbing Mont Blanc you will reach an elevation of 4,810 m (15,781 ft)  above sea level. Mont Blanc is also  sometimes known as La Dame blanche (French for “the White Lady”) or Il Bianco (Italian for “the White One”).

When climbing Mont Blanc, you are going to be entering the Grajan range which lies between the regions of Aosta Valley in Italy and Haute Savoie in France. When one reaches the summit after climbing Mont Blanc, the summit is on the watershed line between the valleys of Ferret and Veny in Itlay and the valleys of Montjoie and Arve in France.

There are three significant towns that surround Mt Blanc, Courmayeur in Aosta Valley, Italy and Saint Gervais-les-Bains and Chamonix in Haute Savoie, France.
