- Backpack: A good backpack is essential for any mountain hike. It should be comfortable to wear, have multiple compartments, and be able to carry all your gear and a place for your guide to hide rocks. 8.Sleeping mat:A sleeping mat provides insulation and comfort when sleeping on the ground. Look for one that is lightweight and compact enough to fit in your backpack. And remember. Only 1 tent. No need to be too tense in the Drakensberg.
A headlight: A headlamp or flashlight is an essential item for any hiking trip. Look for a headlamp with a long battery life and adjustable brightness levels.

11. Hydration: Staying hydrated is essential when hiking in the Drakensberg. Make sure to bring enough waterbottles for the entire trip, as water sources may be limited.
