Join us on a day trip to Tugela Falls, the second-highest waterfall in the world and quite possibly the best excuse to spend a day pretending you’re far more adventurous than your colleagues think you are.
This is one of the most iconic hikes in South Africa and the only popular day hike that takes you all the way onto the Drakensberg escarpment. Over a relatively modest 13km, you’ll climb to the top of the Amphitheatre, tackle the famous chain ladders, stand at the edge of a near 1,000m drop, and spend the day wondering why anyone would ever choose to sit inside on a weekend.
The beauty of this hike is the effort-to-reward ratio. You’ll definitely work for it, but you’re not exactly crossing Mordor either. Most reasonably fit humans can complete it, and the views are so ridiculous you’ll forget about the uphill sections. At least temporarily.
The cost is R1,200 per person and includes:
You’ll leave with spectacular photos, slightly tired legs, and a brand-new appreciation for just how absurdly beautiful the Drakensberg is.
So what are you waiting for?
The waterfall has been standing there for millions of years, but your excuse for not joining us is looking increasingly flimsy.
