Full and half day cultural tour of Johannesburg
Our cultural tour Johannesburg combines a tour of the cities famous landmarks which includes the apartheid museum and Mandela’s old house in Soweto
About the Day tour:
South Africa has been through some amazing changes over the past decade. From the gold rush in Johannesburg in the late 1800’s through to development of its infrastructure and culture. The city is still a baby in comparison to the other cities in the world. In fact, she is still in diapers compared to the cultural history of say Rome. But that is what makes Johannesburg so exiting. Yes, the city has been painted with the brush of adversity and crime, but what city does’nt have its problems. Our cultural tour Johannesburg is designed to take you through the various areas with history that have helped mould the city as it has become. Obviously there have been many factors like apartheid and the economy that has influenced not only how Johannesburg was formed, but how it changed the history of South Africa as a whole. Many of the past freedom fighters like the late Nelson Mandela spend many years fighting for political equality in the streets of Soweto. In fact, part of our cultural tour Johannesburg includes a visit to Mandela’s house. Our day tours to Johannesburg is a tad different to the other tours we offer. Of course if you are still keen to explore the adventurous side of the city, we offer other exiting tours
One of the most interesting parts of the cultural tour Johannesburg is visiting the Apartheid museum, where guests can get a feel for what the system was all about and how it affected the nation. The museum was opened to the public in 2001. The cost to build the Apartheid museum cost close to R80 million. The museum is registered as a non profit organisation with an independent board of trustees. The exhibits have been put together and organised by a multi-disciplinary team of curators, film-makers, historians and designers. They include film footage, photographs, text panels and artefacts illustrating the events and human stories that are part of the apartheid saga.
As with Johannesburg, Soweto has played its part in the development of the city’s cultural personality. Guests are taken into the ‘township’ as it is locally known where we will experience the vibe and excitement of township life. One of the best days to go is ‘Pooza Thursday’. This is when the township really goes into party mode. Pooza is a slang word for drinking. Our cultural tour to Soweto includes lunch as a local restaurant where you can savour the culinary tastes of Soweto. And for those Fear Factor enthusiast, yes, we can arrange chicken feet and sheep brains if you like.
Join our Cultural tour Johannesburg and not will you only experience the in and outs of the various Historical sites and museums around Joburg, you will also have the service of a qualified professional driver at your disposal.
